01/19/2016 - Mallinckrodt awards $100,000 grant to North County Inc. to help fund community programs for North St. Louis County hospitals
ST. LOUIS (Jan. 11, 2016) - North County Incorporated (NCI) is proud to announce today the receipt of a $100,000 grant from Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals to help fund the Community Health Access Program (CHAP) for Christian Hospital and SSM Health DePaul Hospital, two important hospitals serving patients in North St. Louis County. Under the program, the hospitals coordinate efforts of their Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources and Emergency Departments (EDs) to help assure low-income, non-emergent patients - many of whom contact 911 for EMS in times of need - receive the right care from the right resource, at the right time. The hospitals identify patients for CHAP services based on calls to 911 and visits to the hospital EDs for non-urgent issues or medical conditions that do not require immediate medical attention. Currently, CHAP provides Advanced Practice Paramedic services and referrals to Christian Hospital's Community Health Resource Center for comprehensive evaluation and connections to appropriate resources for non-urgent patients, ultimately assuring that individuals are able to access the outpatient and preventive services they need. Since its inception, CHAP at Christian Hospital has positively impacted more than 10,000 people. "North County Inc. is pleased to serve as a conduit for collaboration with one of North County's major corporations, Mallinckrodt and top healthcare providers, Christian Hospital and SSM Health DePaul Hospital," said Rebecca Zoll, president and CEO of North County Inc. "This initiative is important because it connects our community's highest at-risk residents with access to preventive and wrap-around services that will improve their health and overall quality of life." The grant will help Christian Hospital expand CHAP to ensure more patients receive access to care in the most appropriate setting. "We are thankful that Mallinckrodt recognizes our approach to provide measureable and positive outcomes in low-income populations and is willing to help us refine the program and broaden its access so that more patients can benefit," said Ron McMullen, president of Christian Hospital. For SSM Health DePaul Hospital, this grant will enable the hospital to work with community ambulance services to develop a model to test the effectiveness of CHAP in its service area. "CHAP aims to address many of the non-traditional and socioeconomic factors in combination with services that impact community health in a patient-focused manner," said Sean Hogan, president of SSM Health DePaul Hospital. "We are able to make this happen because partners like Mallinckrodt share our mission to improve the health of the community we serve." St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger commended Mallinckrodt for its contribution. "This grant exemplifies Mallinckrodt's dedication to North County Incorporated and some of the area's most at-risk residents," said Stenger. "With Mallinckrodt's support, CHAP will connect patients with timely and appropriate care." Helping to improve lives is part of Mallinckrodt's mission, and the company works to make a positive difference in meaningful ways, according to Mark Trudeau, Mallinckrodt president and CEO. "We are committed to increasing access to healthcare and wellness - strengthening the communities in which our employees live and work. We're pleased to support this program by working together with North County Inc. and two important hospitals that are serving patients in the St. Louis community." Mallinckrodt is a global specialty biopharmaceutical and imaging business that develops, manufactures, markets and distributes specialty pharmaceutical products and therapiesand imaging agents. Areas of focus include therapeutic drugs for autoimmune and rare disease specialty areas like neurology, rheumatology, nephrology and pulmonology; immunotherapy and neonatal respiratory critical care therapies; and analgesics and central nervous system drugs. 01/06/16 - BSR Services Selected To Participate In National Study St. Louis snow and ice specialist joins salt management research
(St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 6, 2016) – BSR Services was recently selected as Missouri’s only official research candidate – and one of just 30 companies across North America – to participate in a national salt management study. The Sustainable Salt Initiative (SSI), which was created by Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) in partnership with Viaesys-Inc., was designed to address the need for practical, real-life salt application data in order to develop industry standards and best practices. BSR Services, which was founded by owner Carl Bolm in 1984, is St. Louis’ largest locally owned and operated snow and ice management provider. The company recently upgraded its fleet to include automated salt tracking technology similar to that used by Highway Departments and Departments of Transportation. The fully automatic GPS-enabled salt tracking systems provide real-time salt application data as salt is applied to properties. The live data is used by the BSR Services’ management team to ensure safe pavement conditions while minimizing over application of salt. The same data is also used as a part of a larger data pool to develop standards for salt application rates with the goal of promoting safe and sustainable winter maintenance practices across the industry. BSR Services’ contribution to the Sustainable Salt Initiative will help broaden the scope of data collected for the research. A richer data set will ensure that the salt application rate standards developed by the research initiative cater to a broader range of geographical areas, levels of service and weather severities. The study will track actual salt usage in an effort to understand where safety, sustainability and science meet. It also will assess application rates and adjust accordingly in order to remain environmentally friendly and in sync with the industry. The gathered information will be coupled with research conducted by Snow and Ice Control for Parking Lots, Platforms and Sidewalks (SICOPS) to determine a helpful set of recommendations for salt applications that make business sense and proactively address environmental concerns associated with over-application. “Not only does this research help the industry as a whole but it also assists my company in terms of documenting time and product required at each client’s site,” said BSR Services owner Carl Bolm. “I’m looking forward to learning the results of how our salt usage numbers compare to others in the snow and ice business, especially if it helps us decrease our salt usage and embrace more sustainable winter maintenance practices.” BSR Services is a proactive risk management expert that focuses on snow-specific commercial property service. The company is located at 2340 Verna Ave. in Maryland Heights, Mo. For more information, call (314) 569-3005 or visit the website at http://www.bsrservices.com. # # #

Maryland Heights Named Missouri’s 2013 Google eCity Posted Date: 8/20/2013 Maryland Heights has been named the digital capital of Missouri by Google. The 2013 Google eCity Awards identified the strongest online business communities in each state as part of the company’s annual economic impact report. “We are extremely proud to be recognized by Google for the strength of our online business community,” Mayor Mike Moeller said. “The City Council and I have worked hard to make Maryland Heights a place where businesses can thrive, and this award is a good indication that our efforts have been successful.” Google and independent research firm Ipsos MORI analyzed the online strength of local small businesses in cities in all 50 states, evaluating them on criteria such as social media presence, eCommerce and Google AdWords penetration. The city with the highest scores in each state was designated a 2013 Google eCity. The analysis also showed that Google helped generate $1 billion in economic activity in Missouri last year. “The Internet plays a critical role in growing our local businesses and our local economies,” said Scott Levitan, Google’s director of small-business engagement. “With 97 percent of American Internet users looking online for local goods and services, businesses that make use of the web are growing twice as fast and creating twice as many jobs.” For more information on the eCity initiative, visit www.google.com/ecities.
